Hügelschule in Tübingen becomes a Global Ethic School
A place where diversity is embraced: The Hügelschule in Tübingen was honored by the Global Ethic Foundation for its special commitment to respect, tolerance, and cohesion. The elementary school in Tübingen’s Südstadt district is now part of the nationwide network of Global Ethic Schools and demonstrates how values can be successfully instilled in children from an early age.
HÜGELSCHULE SCHOOL RECOGNIZED FOR ITS LIVED VALUES
The Global Ethic Foundation has officially designated the Hügelschule in Tübingen a Global Ethic School. In doing so, it recognizes the school’s long-standing commitment to respectful coexistence and cultural diversity. Children from over 30 nations learn together at the Hügelschule. Mutual consideration is a matter of course in everyday school life, supported by openness, empathy, and a strong sense of community.
At Hügelschule, shared values are firmly anchored in everyday life. In religious education classes, children visit synagogues, mosques, and churches. Christian and Muslim teachers work together to design lessons and celebrations. Theater projects with the Landestheater Tübingen promote self-confidence, expressiveness, and cohesion. In this way, the values of the Global Ethic Program are not only taught, but also brought to life.
PART OF A NATIONWIDE NETWORK
With this award, the Hügelschule now belongs to a network of 28 Global Ethic Schools in Germany. They all share the goal of empowering young people to act responsibly and promoting peaceful coexistence in diversity.
“Peaceful coexistence requires respect for differences,” emphasized Lena Zoller, Managing Director of the Global Ethic Foundation. For program manager Julia Willke, it quickly became clear: “This school must become a Global Ethic School. Its consistent focus on values and conscious approach to diversity convinced me.”
The award ceremony was celebrated on October 21 in the school gym – together with children, teachers, parents, and guests from the city, including Dr. Gundula Schäfer-Vogel, Mayor for Social Affairs, Public Order, and Culture, and School Superintendent Martin Fouqué.
