FIRST GLOBAL ETHIC SCHOOL IN BERLIN
The Sternberg Elementary School in Berlin has been an official Global Ethos School since September 24, 2025. This makes it the first school in the German capital to join the network – a milestone for the program.
WHY THE STERNBERG PRIMARY SCHOOL BECAME A GLOBAL ETHIC SCHOOL
At Sternberg Primary School, values education is firmly anchored in school life. At its heart are the “Sternberg Declarations”, a jointly developed mission statement that formulates central principles such as respect, diversity, and responsibility.
This is supplemented by the subject “Values Encounter”, which all students attend weekly and which gives them space to grapple with ethical questions.
“The Sternberg Declarations are our shared compass. They shape how we interact at our school and make it clear that we live by values – Sternberg values, global ethics values, values for the whole world.”
GLOBAL ETHIC SCHOOL AWARD
At a festive event, the Sternberg Elementary School was officially designated a Global Ethic School by the foundation. School administrators, faculty, parents, and students looked back on their journey together and celebrated the special day with speeches and personal remarks.
The celebration was enriched by dance and singing performances, and a team of students confidently guided the audience through the program.
The designation was thus understood not only as recognition of the work done so far, but also as a joint success for the entire school community – a moment of pride and solidarity that will have a lasting impact.
PART OF A STRONG NETWORK
The award for Sternberg Elementary School is the culmination of a focus on the German capital Berlin by the Global Ethic School program, which has been ongoing since fall 2024.
With this certification, the school is now part of the growing network of Global Ethic Schools in Germany. It also sees the award as a mandate to further develop its value-oriented school culture – and thus to set an example for respect, diversity, and cohesion in Berlin and beyond.
