At the start of Intercultural Week Tübingen 2025 on the evening of September 20, 2025, in the Uhlandstraße auditorium, people from a wide variety of backgrounds exchanged ideas at the discussion carousel – about festivals, hobbies, or favorite dishes. At the subsequent “Market of Opportunities,” associations presented their projects. Ukrainian singing, Bulgarian dancing, international snacks, and personal encounters made the evening a lively start to two weeks full of diversity.

NEW PERSPECTIVES IN A SHORT TIME

During the conversation carousel, participants changed conversation partners every five minutes. Questions arose about their own values and customs, the role of family, work, and education, or their favorite childhood game. They also talked about how other families celebrate holidays. This led to many small dialogues, surprising similarities, and direct insights into other ways of life – in keeping with the motto “Dafür!” (For this!) of the nationwide Intercultural Week. The atmosphere was open, relaxed, and curious, which is exactly what makes this format so special.

ASSOCIATIONS PRESENT THEIR WORK

At the “Market of Opportunities,” local initiatives presented how they have been working for diversity and cohesion in Tübingen for years. Between international snacks, guests exchanged ideas directly with association representatives and made initial contacts for upcoming Intercultural Week events and beyond.

“The search for common values is particularly important”, emphasized Büşra Çebi from the Global Ethic Foundation.

That evening, it became clear that small encounters create connections, no matter where you come from. After three successful encounter formats during the past Intercultural Weeks in Tübingen, initiated by the Global Ethic Foundation, the conversation carousel is now officially established as a kick-off format.
