Community Creates a Global Ethic School

On April 11, 2025, Otto Hahn Gymnasium (OHG) in Böblingen was officially recognized as a Global Ethic School. The school impressed with its vibrant mission statement, strong values-based education, and creative projects.
WHY OHG BECAME A WELTETHOS SCHOOL
At OHG, values education is deeply embedded in everyday school life. Alongside its strong focus on the sciences, the school places particular emphasis on social learning and education in values and democracy.
Students are encouraged and empowered to take an active role in shaping society—in full alignment with the goals of the Global Ethic School program. There is a long list of initiatives that embody this spirit: from the sailing camp to a well-established feedback and coaching culture in grades 5 and 6, to environmental efforts like the school garden and the dedicated student café.
“The motto ‘Community is our strength’ is clearly reflected in everyday life at OHG. That’s exactly what makes this school a true Global Ethic School.”

THE AWARD CEREMONY
At the award celebration, students made a powerful statement for diversity and solidarity through music, personal contributions, and a symbolic balloon release. The OHG’s commitment was especially recognized in remarks from Mayor Tobias Heizmann, who expressed pride in welcoming a second Global Ethic School to Böblingen. Paralympic champion and OHG alumnus Maurice Schmid also addressed the guests, highlighting the importance of unity and a strong foundation in values.
PART OF A STRONG NETWORK
As a Global Ethic School, OHG aims to support its students in their personal development and prepare them as thoroughly as possible for the challenges of today’s and tomorrow’s world. The award honors this journey and inspires a continued vision of school as a place for values, connection, and responsibility.
With this recognition, Otto Hahn Gymnasium becomes part of the growing network of Global Ethic Schools in Germany. Joining the network strengthens OHG’s resolve to continue on its path: cultivating a values-driven school culture that empowers, connects, and gives young people the confidence to face a changing world.
