5th Network Meeting of Global Ethic Schools

Under the motto “Have the courage to use your own reason!”, the 5th Network Meeting of Global Ethic Schools took place on November 22 in Bad Boll. Schools from across Germany—and even one Global Ethic School from Luxembourg—came together to exchange ideas, build connections, and gather fresh inspiration for everyday school life.
INFORMATION AND INSPIRATION
To inform and inspire, to motivate and connect—this was the focus for school leaders, social educators, and teachers attending the 5th Network Meeting of Global Ethic Schools in Bad Boll. In line with the upcoming Kant Year 2024, this year’s motto was “Have the courage to use your own reason!”—a central message from Kant that embodies a key foundation for living out the idea of a Global Ethic in schools and their contribution to democratic society.

COMMEMORATION CULTURE AND SECOND CHANCE SHOP
One of the highlights of the event was the “Marketplace of Possibilities,” where Global Ethic Schools presented a wide range of projects and initiatives. Two best-practice examples:
- Elisabeth Selbert Gymnasium Filderstadt (ESG): Commemoration Culture
The year-long project “Commemoration Culture” was awarded first prize by the foundation “Shared Remembrance – Shared Responsibility for the Future.” The project includes, among other elements, a class session on International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a local perspective, visits to memorial sites, and talks with contemporary witnesses. Further components include a city tour in Stuttgart titled “Sites of Persecution, Resistance, and Remembrance,” the development of teaching guides, and professional development for teachers at the international memorial Yad Vashem. - Albertville Realschule: Second Chance Shop
In this initiative, 20 students run a shop where gently used children’s and youth books, school supplies, and games are passed on to fellow students in exchange for small donations. The proceeds go to the organization Tour Ginkgoin Stuttgart and to Bunter Kreis at Winnenden Hospital.
“The network meeting is diverse and enriching. It offers the chance to engage in personal exchange and learn more about how the idea of a Global Ethic is being implemented and anchored in schools—especially how this can succeed across different school types and age groups. We’re leaving with lots of ideas.”
