The
Tübingen based Global Ethic Foundation received the “Interfaith
Education Award” for its commitment and activities in the field
of interreligious education. The award was given by the “Temple
of Understanding”, an interreligious organization founded in 1960
and based in New York, and includes a prize money of US $ 5,000. The
same organization granted its “Juliet Hollister Award” to
Professor Hans Küng for his “extraordinary service to interreligious
understanding through his life work”.
Both awards were delivered
on July 10, 2004 at the Parliament of the World's Religions in Barcelona.
This huge interreligious event took place from 7 to 13 July with
thousands of participants. Its programme included a public
dialogue between Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Shirin Ebadi of Iran and
Hans Küng.
In Chicago in 1993 the Parliament of World's Religions adopted the “Declaration
Toward a Global Ethic”. The Parliament is held about every fifth
year.
